Got Tantric Twitches? (Includes video demo!)

Do you or your lover ever get “tantric twitches” or a sort of “turned on Tourettes” when you’re aroused? They’re rather jerky, almost spastic movements known as “kriyas.”

Sounds weird, I know. But it actually feels yummy, as long as it’s not freaking out your partner, if you’re with one. (This video from the CBS TV show, The Doctors, includes a demo.)

The word kriya means action (though you probably won’t find it in a western dictionary). Another meaning of Kriya is an outward physical manifestation of awakened kundalini, such as a spontaneous body movement related to Kundalini energy flow.

Another meaning of Kriya is an outward physical manifestation of awakened kundalini, such as a spontaneous body movement related to Kundalini energy flow.

Kundalini is vital life force energy that resides at the base of your spine, like a coiled up sleeping snake. It usually lies dormant unless awakened, so most of us are unaware of it.

I first started experiencing this very pleasurable (but rarely discussed) jerky phenomenon over 20 years ago while I was making love. Over time, I realized it was kundalini energy being released as it flows up my spine. Once it started, kriyas soon became intrinsic to my erotic experience.

My personal view is that these twitches can start or increase as energetic blocks get cleared out, and your sexual energy starts flowing freely throughout your entire body. This can have a very cleansing and revitalizing effect, and it feels great!

These movements have changed for me over time.

As “kinks” in my energy flow smoothed out, my kriyas became less jerky than shown in the video. They have become more like a full-body wave motion – almost a subtle orgasmic flow, which (as you can imagine) is increasingly pleasurable.

But wait, there’s more… My initial tendency is to release the energy through “kriyas,” which I probably had to do for years to clear out the kinks in my energy system. But since being with Dennis, he has shown me that, instead of continuing to release this energy, I can harness and circulate it to open to greater rapture. This may contribute to the increasingly frequent experience of being in a bubble of light with him during lovemaking and during our “afterglow” cuddle time.

How do I circulate it? As jerky kriyas begin, I breathe deeply and consciously allow the energy to flows more smoothly. Then I can circulate it – letting it flow down the front of my body and then up the back. All it takes is brief gentle attention. As they say, “Energy flows where attention goes. Just don’t get overly focused on it, which takes you out of the moment and defeats the purpose.

Though I cannot make kriyas happen, it has become very natural for me to open to these waves of energy. I can stop them if I want to, although it feels rather rigid to do so – or I can “allow” them, and now even circulate them, which feels great and very intimately connected with my partner.

Just knowing about this phenomenon may give you internal permission to “allow” it for yourself if it feels like it’s starting to happen.

A big part of what I do is help people clear out cultural inhibitions and sexual wounding that may have dampened your natural spontaneous sexual expression. And this can help unleash this wonderful energy flow.

To be clear, as much as I enjoy kriyas, I don’t think you need to experience them to have a fantastic sex life. Another reason I’m telling you about this phenomenon is because…

…if you and/or your partner are experiencing kriyas during lovemaking, at least one of you may be wondering what’s going on. So, it’s a good idea to discuss it, and I hope this helps you broach the subject.

If you already enjoy this energy release, or have been with someone who does, I’d love for you to leave a comment below.

Interesting! I think this explains the upward jerking I experience in my chest when I orgasm. It feels like I’ve got a rope around my sternum and am being repeatedly jerked up by it with the orgasmic waves.

This only started a few years ago and I’ve never understood why. I just go with the flow, even though it feels a little silly.

I have not been with a partner for quite a while, but in the past year I have experienced this occasionally during “self cultivation” as they say. It’s not unpleasant…actually feels almost like the physical component of a full-body orgasm. But, it’s also spontaneous and involuntary…like a minor seizure that I can turn off with effort. LOL at first I was confused and wondering “holy crap, did I just break my nervous system???” Ultimately however, I’ve seen that being mindful of the sensation of kriya leads me to greater capacity and control of the energy flowing in my body at all times. I’m happy to read this article and understand more about it!

      Hi Jeff,
I love what you’ve written. And I’m so happy you didn’t break your nervous system! 😉
It’s great that you’re becoming more aware of the energy that is flowing in your body at all times. It’s flowing in all of us, although sometimes it gets “kinked” or blocked. Sounds like you’re getting more plugged into the vital life force of the universe!
